Lunch bell was going to ring in 10 minutes. All of us were impatiently waiting for the class to end. In every lunch break, all of us sit together under a tree and share our food with one another. This time the teacher wanted to join us too, which no one had a problem with. The bell rang and we all picked our lunch boxes and walked towards the tree outside our class. I opened my box and inside was rice, a little pickle and Kandi podi (Gun powder) in a smaller box.
My teacher got muruku and the two of my other friends got idli and sambar rice. I shared my podi with all and they seemed to love it ! My teacher asked me if I know what this podi is made of. I only know that Kandi podi mixed with hot rice and pickle is a very mouthwatering combination but didn’t know what it was made of. She went on to tell us that it is a high source of protein and dietary fibre and that it is rich in many nutrients. I didn’t know the podi I have every other day was such a power house along with being very tasty!
Apparently it acts as a substitute to daal, which explains why my amma chose to put podi instead of daal today as she wasn’t doing very well. I told my teacher and friends that this podi is from Vedas Foods and that they should get it too. Next time I’ve got to tell amma to put a bigger box of kandi podi!
